Montgomery, IL – Democrat Matt Brolley today blasted Congressman Hultgren for his silence over Donald Trump’s rollback of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Brolley was responding to a story in the Daily Herald which stated “Republican U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren of Plano did not respond to requests for comment.”
“Once again we have a Congressman who refuses to tell the people he represents where he stands on key issues. First, Congressman Hultgren refused to hold town halls on healthcare before voting on people’s future,” said Brolley. “Now, he won’t even say if he opposes Donald Trump’s disastrous policies.”
Trump’s decision on DACA has been widely criticized by members of both parties, from former President Barack Obama to former GOP Presidential nominee John McCain.
“This isn’t hard. These kids did nothing wrong. They were brought here by their parents and they are Americans in every way but one – having citizenship,” said Brolley. “We shouldn’t punish children for what their parents have done. That is not who we are as Americans.”
Congressman Hultgren has been noticeably silent on key issues, even as he votes with Donald Trump over 95% of the time. Hultgren refused to hold health care town halls before voting to repeal Obamacare, so Brolley recently held his own town hall to listen to constituents of the district.
“If Congressman Hultgren won’t do the very bare minimum and at least let people know where he stands, I’ll show him how to do it: I strongly oppose Donald Trump’s decision to roll back DACA,” said Brolley. “The people of this district should demand Congressman Hultgren tell them if he agrees with Donald Trump on DACA. But I don’t advise them to hold their breath.”
